Earn up to 14 CE Hours | In-Person Training
Hosted by Southern NV EFT in Las Vegas, NV
Join us in Las Vegas for an immersive 2-day Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) training that dives deep into working with the extreme expressions of protection in both pursuing and withdrawing positions.

When Protection Takes Over: Working with the Extremes in Pursuers and Withdrawers
In couples therapy, we often encounter clients protections in overdrive—when withdrawers shut down completely, go silent, or become immovable, and when pursuers escalate, criticize, or demand with intense urgency. These extreme protective strategies can overwhelm the therapeutic process, mask deeper vulnerabilities, and leave therapists feeling stuck or reactive.
Workshop Details
In this advanced, in-person workshop, EFT Trainers Dr. James Hawkins and Cindy Zane, LMFT will help you identify and work effectively with these intense presentations by:
-
Exploring how attachment strategies shape the protective extremes in both positions
-
Recognizing the emotional logic of high-intensity protest or withdrawal
-
Building the therapist’s capacity to regulate emotion in the room and stay engaged
-
Tracking the cycle when protective responses dominate the interaction
-
Gently accessing and expanding primary emotion beneath the protection
-
Working with cultural, trauma, and systemic factors that can intensify protections
-
Creating a path toward de-escalation, vulnerability, and bonding
-
Work towards successful Pursuer Softening & Withdrawer Re-engagement in Stage 2 EFT
Through teaching, clinical demos, experiential practice, and group reflection, you’ll leave with a clearer map and greater confidence in working with couples where protection has become extreme—and connection feels out of reach.
This workshop is ideal for EFT-trained therapists looking to grow their skills with complex, high-intensity couples, particularly those with trauma histories, cultural overlays, or entrenched patterns that make progress feel difficult.
